Electral Dermal Screening (EDS)

The prevention of disease and the attainment of optimal health in patients are primary objectives at Alt Med Services. Our professional staff uses the Orion® Electral Dermal Screening (EDS) unit, a computer-based system to examine the body. It really amounts to a physical from a Chinese point of view. Using Chinese acupuncture points known and recognized for thousands of years, energy levels are measured and recorded as they relate to various organs and organ systems. These readings will relay the information from the body of either balance, inflammation, or deficiency. Depending on the needs of the individual we will recommend the appropriate herbs, nutrition, enzymes, detoxifying methods, or homeopathy to bring balance back to the body.

THE EDS TEST: Both the client and the technician are seated in a private (but not closed off) area. There is a desk, computer, EDS unit, metal bar, and flat-tipped probe. A very small amount of electricity (not enough to feel) is put into the body by the client's holding onto a small metal/copper rod. The amount is just enough to energize the acupuncture points for a reading. The technician uses a small, flat-tipped probe to touch the corresponding acupuncture points located on the hands and feet. At no time are needles used in electro-dermal screening. The skin is never pierced or punctured. Aside from removing your shoes and socks, you remain dressed during the screening.

It will be preferable if you bring ALL supplements or prescriptions you are currently taking. We need your prescriptions to be sure that the body is balanced with them included in the regime. If you have already purchased supplements and they test well (show that they are working for you) then there is no need to spend additional money. We do stock ONLY the best whole food, herbal, and homeopathic supplements that can be found - we are not devoted to one company or one product - we only care about quality and what will work for the individual we are testing.

The cost for the screening is $135.00 for the first session and $70.00 for retesting and less for quick/product tests (sometimes we just need to find out if you would benefit from having a certain supplement for longer then we expected). The cost of supplements is never known until the test is completed because until we test you we do not know what your body needs. There are some forms/questionaires needed for your first appointment. We mail them if there is time - if you didn't receive them please arrive about 20 minutes early to fill them out.

What is the Orion EDS system?
It is a "data acquisition process" used to determine the areas of electrical imbalance in the body. It allows the practitioner to conduct an "interview" with the body's organs and tissues, showing much about the functional status of those areas. It shows how much stress an organ is under and can guide the practitioner on what will eliminate the imbalance. It measures electrical currents in the body, much like an EKG machine measures the electrical activity of the heart. It monitors the progress of therapy, eliminating a great deal of trial and error.

How the Orion (EDS) system works:
To begin with, you must understand the operation of an ohm meter. Why? Because the Orion System design requires the inclusion of ohm meter circuitry to function. An ohm meter is a tool used by electricians and technicians to determine the amount of resistance between two points of a circuit. That circuit can be as simple as a single piece of wire or as complex as the nervous system of the human body. The resulting measurement is determined by establishing the resistance to electron flow through the circuit. The patient begins by grasping the brass electrode in their hand. This brass probe is actually the negative lead and is the source of the minute electrical current (5 volts). The electron flow which enters the body is dependent on the load (resistance) of the body. Because a complete electrical path must be established to obtain a reading, a second probe must be placed at another point on the body. The second probe is identified by its unique pencil-like shape. This probe is placed on the skin's surface at various acupuncture points (more correctly termed "Data Access Points") to complete the electrical flow. The force necessary to contact these points is negligible and does not require the skin to be punctured. The instrument then measures the amount of electrons that flowed while the circuit was closed. This amount represents a conductance value which is automatically displayed on the screen by the computer's software.

The Cygnus Aqua-Cleanse® is a therapeutic instrument used for detoxifying the body and inducing energetic balance through an ionized water bath for the feet or hands. As toxins are released internally (through the liver, colon, and lymphatic system) and externally (through the skin), we create a “siphon effect” that can be exploited in detoxification. We often recommend herbal or homeopathic remedies in addition to the Cygnus treatments to provide the necessary substances your body may need to heal itself during and after detoxifying. Randy McCormick provides this service as an effective method to reduce acute and chronic pain and to target specific organs and organ systems that need balance.
